Haryana to Get First FPO in Rewari as CM Saini, Union Minister Launch Projects Worth ₹121 Crore

Rewari: Haryana is set to launch its first Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) on Tuesday, marking a significant step towards strengthening the state’s agricultural sector. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit Rewari to inaugurate the initiative and unveil development projects worth ₹121 crore.

The two leaders will attend the concluding ceremony of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan at the Agriculture College in Bawal. During the event, several development projects for the Bawal region will be inaugurated, while foundation stones for new works will also be laid.

Tight Security Arrangements for VVIP Visit

Authorities have made elaborate security and logistical arrangements ahead of the high-profile event.

Police personnel have been deployed across the venue and surrounding areas, with 13 police checkpoints established on routes leading to the programme to prevent the entry of anti-social elements.

Special teams, including riot control units, bomb disposal squads, tear gas squads and Vajra vehicles, have also been deployed, while plainclothes police officers will monitor suspicious activities.

District officials, including the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP), inspected the venue until late Monday evening to review preparations.

Adequate arrangements have also been made for visitors, including drinking water, electricity and shaded seating areas.

What is an FPO?

A Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) is a collective of farmers—primarily small and marginal cultivators—formed to improve their bargaining power, reduce cultivation costs and increase their income.

Under the Haryana FPO Mission, groups of 10 to 50 farmers can come together to form an FPO. These organisations can be registered under the Companies Act or the Cooperative Societies Act and receive institutional support from agencies such as NABARD.

The initiative is aimed at connecting farmers with local, national and international markets while helping them access better technology, finance and marketing opportunities.

How Farmers Will Benefit

Through FPOs, farmers will be able to collectively purchase fertilisers, seeds and pesticides at lower prices, reducing input costs.

They can also process agricultural produce by setting up units for mustard oil extraction, spice grinding, packaging and branding, allowing them to add value before selling.

In addition, FPOs enable farmers to negotiate better prices, sell produce directly to retailers, exporters and large companies, and reduce dependence on middlemen.

The organisations are also eligible for government subsidies ranging from 50% to 90% on agricultural machinery, including tractors and rotavators, as well as financial assistance for infrastructure such as cold storage facilities, warehouses, packaging units and solar plants.
