Haryana Govt Mandates Five-Minute Yoga Break In Industrial Units

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has launched a time-bound initiative to introduce a daily five-minute “Y-Break” across industrial units in the state, aimed at improving the physical, mental and emotional well-being of workers.

The initiative was announced by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in his Budget speech and is being implemented by the AYUSH Department in coordination with the Industries and Commerce Department.

One Trained Employee For Every 50 Workers

Additional Chief Secretary, AYUSH, Sumita Misra said each industrial workplace will organise yoga camps and training sessions under the programme.

Every unit will train at least one employee for every 50 workers within a month to lead the five-minute sessions. In units operating in shifts, one trained employee will be designated for every group of 50 workers in each shift.

The Industries and Commerce Department has been asked to circulate the advisory to industrial units and associations and ensure time-bound implementation according to the prescribed standard operating procedure.

Yoga Camps To Be Organised Across Industrial Units

The General Manager of the District Industries Centre (GM-DIC) in each district will coordinate with the District Ayurveda Officer to prepare schedules for yoga camps and training sessions.

Within a month, each industrial unit will select one or two employees for training. These employees will subsequently conduct Y-Break sessions with guidance from trained Yoga Sahayaks.

Five-Minute Routine Includes Yoga, Pranayama And Meditation

The government said the Y-Break is a scientifically designed short routine comprising simple yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation techniques.

The exercises can be performed at workplaces without special equipment or additional infrastructure.

Participation in the programme will remain voluntary, while industrial units have been advised to ensure that sessions are conducted safely and do not disrupt normal operations.

The initiative is intended to promote a healthier, more productive and stress-free workplace environment across Haryana’s industrial sector.
