Haryana: Government to hold talks with doctors on strike today, case to be heard in High Court

A meeting between the Haryana government and the doctors on strike will be held this evening at 4 PM in Chandigarh. A hearing on the matter is also scheduled in the High Court today.

Despite the Haryana government implementing ESMA (Essential Services Maintenance Act) and a ‘no work, no pay’ policy, the doctors’ strike continued on Wednesday. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao have appealed to the doctors to return to work immediately.

The government says that three out of the four demands of the doctors have been accepted. They should end the strike and opt for dialogue. Meanwhile, Dr. Rajesh Khyalia, president of the Haryana Civil Medical Association, and members Dr Labh Singh and Dr. Virender have started a hunger strike at the Director General of Health Services office in Panchkula.

CM says three out of four demands accepted
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the doctors had four main demands, of which the government has accepted three. He said that the Finance Department issued a notification on August 16, 2024, regarding the demand for the formation of a specialised cadre for doctors.

A notification has also been issued on October 25, 2024, regarding the demand for providing travel allowance for duties outside the hospital. The government has currently put a hold on the demand to stop the direct recruitment of Senior Medical Officers (SMOs).

Rules of other states being studied 

The rules of other states are being studied in this regard, and direct recruitment of SMOs in the state will remain suspended until the report is received. Their fourth demand, a change in the ACP (Assured Career Progression) structure, has not been accepted yet.

He said that their fourth demand is also a demand of various other departments. Therefore, it is not possible to accept everyone’s demands. The Chief Minister appealed to the doctors to stay away from any kind of politics.
