Haryana heatwave: Rohtak hits 44.6°C, rain alert

The sun’s intensity has become harsh in the state of Haryana. On Saturday, for the second consecutive day, Rohtak was recorded as the hottest city of Haryana, where the mercury reached 44.6°C. This is 5.9 degrees higher than normal. An increase of 0.3°C has also been observed in the state’s average maximum temperature. The heat and scorching sun have made it difficult for people to leave their homes. In most parts of North and South Haryana, the temperature remained between 40 to 44 degrees.

The severity of the heat in Haryana’s major cities is such that in more than 12 centers, the temperature crossed 42 degrees. These include Rohtak 44.6°C, Faridabad 43.6°C, Narnaul 43.5°C, Sirsa 43.4°C, Hisar 43.0°C, Karnal 42.8°C, Nuh 42.7°C, Bhiwani 42.5°C, Jind 42.5°C, and Sonipat 42.2°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, the likelihood of relief from the heat in the next 48 hours is low. On April 26, most parts of the state will remain dry. However, from tomorrow, that is April 27, changes in the weather will occur due to the activation of the western disturbance.

On April 27, there may be isolated showers in the districts of South and West Haryana. On April 28, there is a possibility of rain and strong winds in almost all districts of the state, which will lead to a drop in temperature. On April 29, the weather will begin to dry up in the districts of North Haryana, but light rain may continue in Central and South Haryana.

Day temperature 5 degrees above normal: The maximum temperature in Haryana is running an average of 5°C above normal. Rohtak remains a hotspot at 44.6°C, while Yamunanagar (Hathnikund Barrage) has been comparatively less hot at 39.6°C. The intensity of the severe heat can be gauged from the fact that from Chandigarh to Ambala and Gurugram, the temperature is not falling below 41 degrees. Afternoon hot winds (loo) have affected daily life.

Night temperature reached 31.8°C: Along with the heat of the day, nights have also started getting hot. The state’s average minimum temperature has been recorded 4.9°C higher than normal. In Bhiwani, the minimum temperature reached 31.8°C, which is quite high. The lowest minimum temperature was 22.4°C in Karnal and Indri. In the last 24 hours, the night temperature has increased by 1.1°C. In cities like Narnaul and Gurugram, the night temperature is around 29 degrees, which means that even after sunset, people are not getting relief from the heat.
