Chandigarh: The southwest monsoon has become fully active across Haryana, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a heavy rainfall alert for seven districts on Tuesday. The alert covers Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Nuh, and Palwal, while rainfall is also expected in several other parts of the state.

According to the IMD, there is around a 50 per cent chance of rain across the remaining districts as monsoon activity is expected to strengthen further over the coming days.

Rain Likely Across Most Parts of Haryana

The weather department has forecast rain at many places in Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Panipat, while isolated showers are likely in Jhajjar, Rohtak, Hisar, Fatehabad, Jind, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri.

The current spell of rainfall is expected to continue through July 8 to July 11, marking a significant increase in monsoon activity after a relatively subdued start to July.

Low-Pressure System to Boost Monsoon

The Department of Agricultural Meteorology at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) has also predicted variable weather conditions across the state until July 10.

According to Dr. Madan Khichar, Head of the Department, the monsoon trough currently extends through Hisar and Bathinda, while a low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea and a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan are creating favourable conditions for the monsoon to advance.

These systems are expected to bring light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds across most districts, with heavy rainfall likely in isolated areas.

Temperatures Expected to Fall

The increased cloud cover and rainfall are expected to bring down daytime temperatures while raising humidity levels across Haryana.

The IMD said both day and night temperatures are likely to remain below normal over the next few days due to continuous rainfall and overcast conditions.

Gurugram Records Highest Rainfall

Several parts of Haryana received rainfall on Monday. Gurugram recorded the highest rainfall at 34.5 mm, followed by Balsamand (Hisar) with 31 mm, Jind (26.5 mm), Karnal (16 mm), Chandigarh (9.8 mm), Charkhi Dadri (9 mm) and Kaithal (8.5 mm).

Sirsa Hottest, Gurugram Coolest at Night

Despite the rainfall, Sirsa remained the hottest district, recording a maximum temperature of 38.6°C. Other high temperatures included 38.4°C in Palwal, 38.2°C in Hisar, 38.0°C in Nuh, and 36.8°C in Ambala.

Meanwhile, Gurugram recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 25°C, around 2°C below normal. Other minimum temperatures included 28.2°C in Rohtak and Hisar, 26.8°C in Karnal, and 26.5°C in Narnaul and Bhiwani.

The weather department expects the active monsoon spell to provide relief from the prevailing heat while benefiting agricultural activities across the state.
