Haryana Weather Update: Heavy rain alert for 4 districts as monsoon regains strength; showers likely till July 22

Chandigarh: After days of intense heat and humidity, Haryana is set to witness a significant change in weather as the southwest monsoon regains momentum. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast increased rainfall activity across the state from Sunday and issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall in four northern districts.

According to the weather department, widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected over the next few days, bringing much-needed relief from soaring temperatures and sultry conditions. The monsoon is likely to remain active across Haryana until July 22, with heavy rain expected in several districts.

Yellow Alert issued for four districts

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra, where isolated spells of heavy rainfall are likely on Sunday.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is also expected across several central and southern districts. Weather experts say monsoon activity will strengthen further from July 20, with the most intense spell of rainfall likely between July 20 and July 22.

Heavy showers are forecast for Yamunanagar, Ambala, Panchkula, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Kaithal on July 20 and 21. Northern districts may continue to receive heavy rainfall on July 22, while southern and western districts, including Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar and Jind, are also expected to receive good rainfall during this period.

Rain brings relief as electricity demand falls

The change in weather has already started providing relief from the persistent heat and humidity experienced over the past several days.

Following evening showers on Saturday, Haryana’s peak electricity demand declined from a record 14,429 MW on July 17 to 13,887 MW on July 18, reflecting lower cooling requirements as temperatures eased.

The expected spell of rain is likely to bring a further drop in temperatures and improve overall weather conditions across the state.

Sirsa records highest temperature at 40.4°C

Before the fresh spell of rain, Haryana continued to experience above-normal temperatures due to strong sunshine and high humidity.

The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 40.4°C in Sirsa, followed by 40.3°C in Rohtak, 39.7°C in Hisar, and 39.5°C in Bhiwani. The average maximum temperature remained around 3.3°C above normal, despite a slight decline compared to the previous day.

Night-time temperatures also remained unusually high, increasing discomfort. Faridabad and Nuh recorded minimum temperatures of 31.2°C, while Sirsa registered 30.8°C. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was 25.4°C in Bhiwani.

With the monsoon expected to strengthen over the coming days, residents can expect cooler temperatures, increased cloud cover and widespread rainfall across much of Haryana. Authorities have advised people to stay updated with official weather advisories, especially in districts under the heavy rain alert.
