Haryana Monsoon Likely to Revive After a Week; Sirsa Faces 77% Rainfall Deficit, Hisar 55% Below Normal

Chandigarh: The southwest monsoon has weakened across Haryana over the past few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicating that widespread rainfall is unlikely in the immediate future. According to meteorologists, monsoon activity is expected to strengthen again after about a week, while the state is likely to witness mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers over the next two to three days.

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in parts of Hisar, Sirsa, Sonipat and Fatehabad on Monday, bringing temporary relief from humid conditions. However, strong winds accompanying the rain also caused damage in several districts, resulting in one death and injuries.

No Heavy Rain Alert for Haryana

The IMD has not issued any heavy rainfall alert for the state. However, isolated thunderstorms and light rain are expected in parts of North Haryana, including Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal. Weather officials said similar conditions are likely to continue for the next few days before monsoon activity gains momentum again.

Storm-Related Incidents Leave One Dead, Woman Injured

Adverse weather led to multiple incidents across Haryana on Monday.

In Bahbalpur village of Hisar district, a woman sustained critical injuries after an iron hoarding collapsed during strong winds. In Fatehabad’s Hans Market, the awning of a shoe shop collapsed due to heavy winds and rain. Fortunately, no one was standing nearby when the structure fell.

Near Bhirdana village in Fatehabad, a tree crashed onto a Bolero vehicle during the storm, but the driver escaped without serious injuries. In the Ratia area, a young man lost his life after a tree fell on his tractor during the storm.

Haryana Records 35% Rainfall Deficit This Season

Rainfall data released by the Meteorological Department shows Haryana has received significantly less rainfall than normal so far this monsoon season.

The state usually receives around 65 mm of rainfall by this stage of July. This year, only 42 mm has been recorded, leaving Haryana with an overall 35% rainfall deficit.

North Haryana Receives Above-Normal Rain

Northern districts have performed better than the state average.

• Yamunanagar: 110 mm rainfall against the normal 95 mm (around 15% above normal).
• Ambala: 105 mm rainfall.
• Panchkula: 98 mm rainfall, also above the seasonal average.

These districts have benefited from relatively active monsoon conditions during the past few weeks.

Western Haryana Faces Severe Rainfall Shortage

The situation remains challenging in western and southern Haryana, where rainfall has been well below normal.

• Sirsa: Only 8 mm rainfall against a normal 35 mm, recording a 77% deficit.
• Fatehabad: Around 12 mm rainfall, 60% below normal.
• Hisar: Approximately 18 mm rainfall, reflecting a 55% deficit.
• Bhiwani and Mahendragarh have also recorded significantly below-average rainfall.

The continuing rainfall deficit has raised concerns among farmers, particularly in rain-fed agricultural areas, as delayed and uneven monsoon showers could affect crop growth if the dry spell persists.

Meteorologists expect the monsoon circulation to strengthen after about a week, which could improve rainfall distribution across the state and provide relief to drought-hit districts.
