Nozzles of 29 Petrol Pumps Sealed in Haryana Over Excess Diesel Dispensing

Hisar: The central government’s directive limiting diesel purchases to 200 liters is impacting petrol pump operators in Haryana. Compliance with these orders has become a source of great anxiety for them; action has already been taken against 29 petrol pumps in the state for dispensing more than 200 liters of diesel.

Most of the affected pumps are located on national highways. Although the companies reactivated the nozzles after 24 hours, the continued discovery of such instances has prompted the companies to enforce stricter rules.

Oil companies have installed automation systems on every nozzle, making it impossible for operators to dispense more than 200 liters of fuel. While operators are unhappy with this measure, no protests have been reported in Haryana so far.

Orders for Pump Owners to Monitor Operations

Despite government directives, rules are being flouted at some pumps in Haryana. Monitoring by oil companies has revealed that transactions exceeding the 200-liter limit are still taking place.

To curb this practice, oil companies and the administration have issued strict instructions to all petrol pump dealers. Dealers have been directed to be personally present at their retail outlets and to oversee every large transaction themselves.

Officials have clarified that if any employee is found violating the rules, the ultimate responsibility and accountability will rest directly with the petrol pump dealer.

Details of the New Notification

Association office-bearers stated that, according to the new Government of India notification, no customer or vehicle can be sold more than 200 liters of diesel per day. Furthermore, any supply of diesel exceeding 200 liters can only be made in containers approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO).

Companies Conducting Their Own Monitoring – Sanjeev Chaudhary

Sanjeev Chaudhary, President of the Haryana Petroleum Welfare Dealers Association, confirmed that the nozzles at 29 pumps in Haryana have been shut down. Although companies do open the nozzles within 24 hours, the government ought to withdraw this decision as soon as possible now that the conflict has ended. Sanjeev Chaudhary noted that the companies have themselves started enforcing stricter controls at fuel pumps and have implemented 100% automation systems.

Transporters Face Difficulties Due to Government Decision

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Beniwal, President of the Haryana Transport Association, stated that transporters are facing the greatest hardship due to the government’s decision. A large truck holds over 700 liters of fuel; if it needs to travel from Haryana to Mumbai, it has to refuel in various states along the way.

Diesel rates differ in every state. Transport companies often maintain accounts with multiple fuel pumps, and consequently, it is the transporters who are bearing the brunt of the financial impact. Kuldeep Beniwal urged the government to withdraw this decision in a timely manner.
