Haryana Police Launch ‘Surgical Strike’ on Social Media: Over 1,000 Suspicious Links Identified, 583 Removed

Chandigarh: Haryana Police has launched a strict crackdown against objectionable content and rumors spreading on social media. 1,018 suspicious links and profiles threatening communal peace and harmony in the state have been identified, of which 583 have been removed. The remaining profiles are under investigation and will be removed soon.

Cyber ​​Team Conducts Daily Monitoring

Haryana’s cyber team is daily monitoring posts, videos, links, and profiles on social media. Any content found to be spreading misinformation, inciting violence, or creating unrest in society is immediately acted upon.

According to Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal, notices are issued to social media platforms every day, demanding the removal of objectionable content under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act.

Surgical Strike on Objectionable Content on Digital Platforms

The police have launched a comprehensive digital cleanup campaign, focusing on removing anti-national, anti-religious, and socially harmful content spreading on social media. This campaign is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Close Watch on Fake Trading Apps

Cyber ​​Haryana has also launched a special campaign since January 12 to curb digital fraud. Under this campaign, 28 suspicious apps and channels have been identified. Of these, 14 have been successfully removed from the platforms, and the final evaluation and removal process for the remaining 14 is underway.

DGP’s Strong Message

DGP Ajay Singhal said that strict action will be taken against those spreading false or provocative information on social media. He said that social media influences youth and all sections of society, and any false or provocative content can pose a direct threat to peace and communal harmony.

DGP’s Appeal to Citizens

DGP Singhal appealed to citizens:

• Do not click on any suspicious links. Before investing in any new app, conduct thorough research.
• Do not share sensitive content on social media without caution.
• Report cyber fraud immediately by calling 1930 or filing a complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
