Haryana Weather Update: Heavy Rain Alert from Today; IMD Warns of Thunderstorms, Lightning and Waterlogging

Narnual, Haryana: The monsoon is set to become active again in Haryana, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts between July 20 and July 22. The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning strikes and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Rain likely across Haryana for next 2-3 days

After a week-long dry spell that increased heat and humidity levels across the state, Haryana is expected to receive widespread rainfall in the coming days.

According to the IMD Chandigarh centre, rain activity will increase from Monday, bringing relief from the hot and humid weather. Several districts are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall, while some areas may receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid standing near trees and electricity poles, and limit unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.

Heavy rain alert issued for Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar

For July 20, the IMD has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in:

• Panchkula
• Ambala
• Yamunanagar

Heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning is also expected in Chandigarh, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonipat and Panipat.

Over the next two days, light to moderate rainfall is likely at several places in Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar. Rainfall activity is also expected in districts including Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Gurugram, Nuh, Palwal, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panipat and Jind.

Rohtak records highest temperature; monsoon to strengthen further

Despite the approaching rain spell, heat conditions continued in parts of Haryana on Sunday. The state’s average maximum temperature was recorded 2.1°C above normal, although it dropped by around 0.5°C compared to the previous day.

Rohtak remained the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 40.3°C, while Narnaul recorded 37°C.

Meteorologists have predicted that rainfall activity will intensify further on July 21, with widespread showers likely across Haryana. Light to moderate rain may continue in some areas on July 24 and 25.

Rain to benefit Kharif crops

The upcoming monsoon spell is expected to provide major relief to farmers, especially those growing Kharif crops such as bajra and other seasonal crops.

Several areas had been facing rainfall shortages, putting crops at risk. The fresh rainfall is likely to improve soil moisture and support agricultural activities across the state.

However, continuous rain may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, and authorities have been advised to remain prepared to handle possible weather-related challenges.
