Haryana Rain Alert: Yellow Alert In 10 Districts, 22% Rainfall Deficit So Far

Chandigarh: The monsoon is likely to regain strength in Haryana over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for rain in 10 districts on Friday. The state has recorded a 22 per cent rainfall deficit so far this monsoon season, increasing hopes that the upcoming showers will bring relief to farmers and residents.

Rainfall activity is expected to remain concentrated over eastern and southeastern Haryana on September 4, before extending towards central and southern parts of the state on September 5.

Yellow alert in 10 Haryana districts

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Faridabad and Palwal.

Rainfall is expected across 14 districts on September 5, including Jhajjar, Gurugram, Nuh and Rewari.

However, the impact of the rain is likely to remain comparatively lower in western districts such as Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani and Jind over the next two days.

The expected increase in rainfall could provide relief from the recent humid conditions and benefit agricultural areas that have received below-normal rainfall this season.

Haryana records 22% rainfall deficit

According to IMD data, Haryana received 283.3 mm of rainfall between June 1 and September 3, against the normal rainfall of 364.6 mm for the period.

This amounts to a 22 per cent deficit during the current monsoon season.

Seven districts have recorded particularly large rainfall deficits and have been placed in the ‘red zone’ for rainfall deficiency.

Jind recorded the highest deficit at 56 per cent, followed by Sirsa at 53 per cent. Kaithal and Ambala each recorded a 50 per cent deficit, while Rohtak recorded a 45 per cent shortfall. Karnal and Panchkula recorded deficits of 43 per cent and 30 per cent, respectively.

Bhiwani records highest temperature

Despite the expected rainfall, several parts of Haryana continued to experience warm conditions.

Bhiwani recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 36.5°C. Hisar recorded 35.9°C, while Sirsa touched 36°C. Ambala recorded 34°C, while Panipat and Rohtak registered 34.5°C.

In Gurugram and Faridabad, temperatures remained between 32.8°C and 33.5°C.

Night temperatures have also remained normal to 1-3 degrees above normal in several areas. Minimum temperatures included 27.3°C in Ambala, 26.1°C in Hisar and 26.2°C in Karnal.

The expected rainfall and cloud cover on September 4 and 5 may bring down minimum temperatures by 1-2°C, providing some relief from humid heat during the night.
