Haryana Rajya Sabha Elections: Congress releases names of MLAs who cross-voted; Show-Cause notices to be issued

B.K. Hariprasad, the Congress party in-charge for Haryana, has disclosed the names of the MLAs who cross-voted during the recent Rajya Sabha elections in the state. According to him, Shelly Chaudhary from Naraingarh, Mohammad Ilyas from Punhana, Mohammad Israil from Hathin, and Renu Bala from Sadhaura engaged in cross-voting. B.K. Hariprasad stated that the Disciplinary Committee has been duly informed of the matter. Show-cause notices are set to be issued to all these MLAs today.

Shelly Chaudhary’s Husband Resigns
The Congress party is in turmoil following the cross-voting by five of its MLAs during the Rajya Sabha elections. On Tuesday, Ramkishan Gurjar—husband of Congress MLA Shelly Chaudhary (Naraingarh) and the party’s Acting President—resigned from both his party membership and all official posts. In a letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, he did not, for the time being, specify the reasons behind his resignation.

Questions Raised Over Party Strategy
Although the Congress party managed to secure one seat in the Rajya Sabha elections, the reality concealed behind this victory is far more concerning for the party. The invalidation of four votes and the cross-voting by five MLAs serve as a clear indication of a severe lack of discipline and unity within the party ranks.

Ramkishan Gurjar, the former State Acting President of the Congress, publicly vented his anguish in Naraingarh on Wednesday. He addressed journalists regarding this issue at the Public Works Department (PWD) Rest House. He asserted that the allegations of cross-voting should not have been leveled in the first place. He warned that if false accusations continue to be made, he, too, has plenty to say in his own defense.

He further stated that he intends to serve a legal notice to those making these false allegations. He emphasized that if there is opposition to Shelly Chaudhary, it should be expressed through political means, not through baseless accusations. He lamented that no one within the party is willing to listen to his grievances. He concluded by stating that he has left the party and will, in the coming days, make a decision regarding his future course of action in consultation with his supporters in Naraingarh.
