In a significant step towards improving road safety, Haryana hosted a large-scale road safety seminar in Chandigarh, witnessing participation from more than 350 experts and researchers from across the country.

The seminar, organised under the aegis of the Haryana government in association with national-level institutions, marked one of the largest such gatherings in the state focused on road safety.

Experts from engineering, traffic management, policymaking, and enforcement agencies came together to discuss strategies to reduce road accidents and improve transportation systems.

CM Nayab Singh Saini addresses gathering

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini addressed the seminar and emphasised that road safety is not just a legal issue but a moral responsibility of every citizen.

He highlighted that while the government can implement policies and infrastructure improvements, public cooperation is equally essential to prevent accidents and save lives.

The Chief Minister urged people to strictly follow traffic rules, including wearing helmets, using seat belts, and avoiding overspeeding.

Focus on reducing accidents and fatalities

The seminar focused on identifying key causes of road accidents and finding effective solutions. Experts discussed:

  • Improving road engineering and design
  • Identifying and fixing accident-prone “black spots”
  • Strengthening enforcement of traffic laws
  • Promoting awareness among drivers and pedestrians

Officials stressed that a combination of technology, policy reforms, and behavioural change is needed to reduce road fatalities.

Participation of national-level experts

The event saw participation from leading professionals, including:

  • Road safety researchers
  • Transport department officials
  • Engineers and planners
  • Law enforcement authorities

The presence of over 350 experts made the seminar a platform for knowledge sharing and policy recommendations at a national level.

Government’s ongoing road safety efforts

The Haryana government has been actively working to improve road safety through multiple initiatives. These include:

  • Identification and rectification of accident-prone zones
  • Strengthening emergency response systems
  • Upgrading road infrastructure
  • Conducting awareness campaigns

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government is committed to making Haryana’s road network safer and more efficient.

Emphasis on public awareness

Speakers at the seminar highlighted that lack of awareness and negligence are among the major causes of road accidents.

They stressed the need for:

  • Road safety education in schools
  • Awareness campaigns for drivers
  • Strict penalties for violations

Experts also pointed out that even small measures, such as following speed limits and avoiding mobile phone usage while driving, can significantly reduce accidents.

A step towards safer roads

The seminar concluded with a collective call for stronger collaboration between government agencies, experts, and the public to tackle road safety challenges.

With Haryana hosting one of its largest road safety events, the initiative is expected to contribute to better policies, improved infrastructure, and increased awareness, ultimately helping reduce accidents and save lives.
