Haryana CM orders stronger sanitation, drainage systems

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to strengthen sanitation and drainage systems across the state to prevent waterlogging and improve public hygiene. The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting held in Chandigarh, where officials from multiple departments were present.

The Chief Minister emphasised that proper sanitation and efficient drainage infrastructure are essential for maintaining cleanliness and preventing health hazards, especially during the monsoon season.

Focus on preventing waterlogging

Saini highlighted that many urban and semi-urban areas face waterlogging during heavy rainfall due to inadequate drainage systems. He instructed officials to identify such vulnerable areas and take corrective measures in advance.

He said that timely cleaning of drains, sewer lines, and canals must be ensured so that rainwater can flow smoothly without causing disruption to daily life. The administration has been asked to complete all preparatory work before the onset of the monsoon.

Strict monitoring and accountability

The Chief Minister directed authorities to implement strict monitoring mechanisms to ensure that sanitation works are carried out efficiently. He stressed that there should be no negligence in maintaining cleanliness and warned that delays or lapses would not be tolerated.

Officials were also asked to set clear timelines for various projects and ensure accountability at every level. The aim is to improve service delivery and avoid complaints from residents.

Integration with urban development plans

During the meeting, Saini also stressed the need to integrate sanitation and drainage improvements with broader urban development plans. He said that with the growing population in cities, infrastructure must be upgraded accordingly to meet increasing demands.

The government plans to adopt modern techniques and technologies to enhance drainage capacity and improve waste management systems. This includes better planning of sewer networks and ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.

Public health and cleanliness a priority

The Chief Minister underlined that improving sanitation is directly linked to public health. Poor drainage and unclean surroundings can lead to the spread of diseases, making it crucial to maintain high standards of hygiene.

He urged officials to conduct regular inspections and ensure that all sanitation-related services function effectively. Public awareness campaigns may also be carried out to encourage citizens to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness.
