A speeding trailer hit an Activa near SD College on the Ambala-Jagadhari Highway at 5 a.m. on Monday. Vandana, 25, and her nine-month-old son, Geetansh, a resident of Sapehra village, were crushed to death by the trailer’s wheels. Vandana’s uncle-in-law, Resham Chand, 55, and her husband, Krishna Lal, 28, were seriously injured. Police detained the fleeing trailer driver near the Cantt bus stand.
Housing Board outpost in-charge Gurdev Singh stated that the family from Sapehra village was traveling to the Cantt bus stand on an Activa. Krishna Lal did not know how to drive, so his uncle-in-law, Resham Chand, was driving.
The family intended to go to Chandigarh PGI from the bus stand. After the accident, the trailer driver tried to flee the scene, but police apprehended him near the Cantt bus stand.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary of the Cantonment Civil Hospital, where post-mortems will be conducted by forensic experts. The injured, Resham Chand and Krishna Lal, are undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case against the truck driver and launched an investigation.
