Chandigarh: The southwest monsoon has become active again across Haryana, bringing rain to several parts of the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall is expected in most districts on Saturday, while a Yellow Alert has been issued for Yamunanagar for heavy rainfall.

Heavy rain was reported in Panipat and Rohtak since Saturday morning, while Jhajjar witnessed light drizzle. Cloudy skies prevailed over Hisar, Rewari and Sonipat, indicating active monsoon conditions.

Heavy rain forecast from July 28

The IMD said the renewed rainfall activity is being driven by the monsoon trough, which is currently positioned south of its normal location. A trough extending from a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan to Jammu is drawing moisture into Haryana, leading to widespread rainfall.

While rainfall activity may reduce slightly on July 26, the weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across north, east and south Haryana from July 28 to July 30. Light to moderate rain is expected in many districts during this period, with isolated places likely to receive intense showers.

Advisory issued for farmers

The Agrometeorological Centre has advised farmers to plan agricultural activities according to the weather forecast. Farmers have been urged to drain excess water from cotton fields to prevent waterlogging, continue paddy transplantation without deep planting, and avoid irrigating vegetable and horticultural crops for the next three days.

The advisory also warned that high humidity could increase the incidence of sucking pests, recommending regular crop monitoring. Livestock owners have been advised to keep animals in well-ventilated shelters with clean drinking water and ensure poultry sheds remain dry to reduce the risk of disease.

Temperatures remain close to normal

Maximum temperatures across Haryana remained close to seasonal averages, with Ambala recording the highest daytime temperature at 35.6°C. Other maximum temperatures included Hisar (32.8°C), Karnal (33.2°C), Rohtak (32.2°C) and Gurugram (31.8°C).

Night temperatures also stayed near normal levels. Narnaul recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 23°C, while Hisar (26.8°C), Ambala (27°C), Rohtak (27.4°C), Gurugram (26.2°C) and Karnal (26.9°C) experienced humid conditions due to persistent cloud cover.
