Haryana Weather: Yellow Alert for Heat and Humidity in 16 Districts, Monsoon Likely to Revive After July 20

Hisar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid weather in 16 districts of Haryana as monsoon activity remains subdued across the state. While isolated light rain or thunderstorms are likely in parts of north Haryana, a broader revival of the monsoon is expected only after July 20.

According to the IMD, the northern limit of the monsoon trough currently extends from Jammu through Dehradun, Shahjahanpur, Basti, Patna, Bankura and West Bengal to the Bay of Bengal. The trough has shifted closer to the Himalayan foothills, which has temporarily reduced rainfall activity over Haryana.

Meteorologists say the monsoon is likely to regain strength after July 20 when the trough is expected to move southward, creating more favourable conditions for widespread rainfall.

Light Rain Likely in Six Northern Districts

Despite the overall slowdown, isolated light rain or thunderstorms may occur today in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Karnal.

These showers are expected to be brief and scattered rather than widespread, but they may provide temporary relief from the oppressive humidity.

Yellow Alert for 16 Districts

The IMD has warned that intense heat and humidity will prevail across much of southern, western and central Haryana.

Weather officials have advised residents to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during afternoon hours and remain adequately hydrated.

Narnaul Hottest at 40.5°C

Haryana’s average maximum temperature rose slightly by 0.1°C over the past 24 hours and is currently running 3.1°C above normal.

Narnaul in Mahendragarh district recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.5°C.

Karnal Records Coolest Night

Night temperatures remained close to normal across most districts.

Weather Analysis: Why Rain Has Reduced Temporarily

The current weather pattern indicates that Haryana is in a break-monsoon phase, a common mid-season feature during the southwest monsoon.

When the monsoon trough shifts north toward the Himalayan foothills:

• Widespread rain decreases over northwestern India.
• Humidity remains high because moisture continues to flow in from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
• Daytime temperatures rise quickly due to increased sunshine between rain spells.

Forecast models suggest that a southward shift of the monsoon trough around July 19–20 could reactivate rainfall across Haryana, potentially bringing more widespread showers and heavy rain in several districts during the following week.

For now, residents can expect hot, humid days with only isolated rain activity before a stronger monsoon spell returns.
