Chemical box explodes in Rohtak, 2 worker dies

A chemical box exploded late on Wednesday night at the Peer Bohdi disposal center of public health in Rohtak. Two employees died on the spot due to this blast. The bodies of both have been completely burned in the accident. The police reached the spot and kept the bodies in the PGI hospital for a post-mortem. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Premnath, a resident of Katihar, Bihar, and 30-year-old Dharambir Singh, a resident of Kasganj, UP.

Sukhpura outpost in-charge said that a disposal has been built by Public Health for the drainage of dirty water near Peer Bohdi on Gohana Road. There were 10 boxes of chemicals kept in the room of the disposal center, which was kept there to connect the sewerage line in case of leakage. The chemical was in the form of powder. At around quarter to one in the night, two boxes suddenly burst, due to which smoke started coming out and the chemical turned into water and fell on the sleeping workers, Premnath and Dharambir.

After this, smoke spread all around. Fellow workers also did not know anything. Somehow the workers were taken out by breaking the window, but by then they had died. It is being told that the family members have been informed about this incident. The police will start further action only after their statements are recorded.

The police say that it is not appropriate to keep the chemicals in the same room where the workers were sleeping. The contractor and department officials will also be questioned regarding this matter. At present, the family members of the deceased are waiting for a postmortem.
