Anti Corruption Bureau Ambala took a big action late on Wednesday night and arrested Sub Inspector Manveer Singh posted in Kaithal Police on charges of demanding a bribe and molesting a woman lawyer. The accused, Manveer Singh, was currently posted in the Economic Cell. This action has created a stir in the entire police department.
This case is related to Rajound police station, where a person from Rajound had filed a fraud case against the complainant father regarding selling of a plot, which was being investigated by the accused Sub Inspector Manveer Singh posted in the Economic Cell. In this case, Sub-Inspector Manveer Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in exchange for removing the name of the complainant from the case. When the complainant’s widowed daughter, who is a lawyer by profession, refused to give a bribe, the accused threatened to implicate her younger sister in the case as well. Along with this, the accused also behaved indecently and obscenely with the woman lawyer.
The woman lawyer complained about this matter to the ACB team through the Anti Corruption Bureau’s old colleague Ravindra Jangi. On the basis of the complaint, a raiding party was prepared. As per the plan, the accused was called near the civil hospital on the pretext of giving money. Due to the alertness of the woman, the meeting was fixed near the hospital canteen.
However, the accused did not get down from the car and called the lawyer near the car and not only molested him, but also pressured him to go to the hotel. When the woman gestured and asked for help from the vigilance team, Manveer sensed danger and he fled by driving the car. After roaming around for a while, he reached his home.
But the already alert vigilance team surrounded his house. As soon as Manveer came to know about this, he switched off the lights of the house and tried to escape through the roofs of the neighbors. During this, the family members also tried to stop the team, due to which the clothes of some officers got torn and they also suffered minor injuries.
