Bhiwani: The Agriculture Department has issued an advisory regarding the insect (pink caterpillar) that attacks cotton in Haryana. According to the department, farmers need not panic about this. Farmers should install 2 pheromone traps per acre to monitor pink caterpillars and count the pink caterpillar moths trapped in them at intervals of 3 days.
He said that if a total of 24 moths are found per tape in three nights, then insecticide spraying is required. He said that if the pink caterpillar infestation in the cotton crop is 5 to 10 percent on the fruit parts, then one spraying of Profenofos Curacron/Celcron/Carina 50 EC should be done at the rate of 3 to 4 milliliters per liter of water.
After this, if needed, the next spraying should be done after 7 to 10 days at the rate of 4 to 5 ml of Quinalphos 20 AF 25 EC or 1.5 grams of Thiodicarb, Larvin 75 WP per litre of water. On the other hand, cotton is infested by spotted caterpillars this month. Therefore, keep an eye on your crop. If a 5 percent infestation of spotted caterpillars is found on the pod parts, then do one spraying of 75 ml of Spinosad (Tracer) 45 SC at the rate of 150 to 175 litres of water per acre.
