Jind: Annu, daughter of Jind district of Haryana, has been selected in the Hockey India Women’s Senior Team. Now Annu will be seen playing in the Indian team. This has brought happiness to the family and the region. A camp was organized for the selection of the senior women’s hockey team in Bengaluru on 29 and 30 March. After the trials, the Indian team was announced on 2 April, in which Annu also got a place.
Annu performed brilliantly in the junior team, due to which she was selected in the senior team. Annu has been practicing hockey for the last 15 years. The family members wanted Annu to become a racer, but Annu became a hockey player.
Annu has won 10 international and 25 national medals
Annu of Rojkheda, a small village in Jind district’s Uchana area, has so far won 10 international medals, 25 national medals, 15 state medals and 10 district level medals. Annu won a gold medal in the hockey league held recently. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also praised Annu.
Annu studied till 5th standard in Sirsa and during this time she was selected through Play for India. Later Annu was selected in Hisar based SAI. After this Annu never looked back and by playing continuously she became the captain of Haryana Junior.
There is no sports facility in the village but she still reached the national team
Annu’s brother Aman said that he and the family wanted Annu to become a racer. But she chose hockey and today she spins the ball with her stick in such a way that the onlooker’s head spins. Aman said that there are no sports facilities in his village, so he sent Annu to Sirsa so that she can make her future in sports.
Seeing that Annu was more interested in hockey than racing, they let hockey be her future. The Senior National Hockey Tournament was going on in Panchkula from 5th to 12th March and Annu’s brother’s wedding was in the village. During this time, Annu was able to attend her brother’s wedding only for a short time. Because her brother’s wedding was on 8th and 9th and her semi-final match was on the 9th.
After this, trials for the senior team were held at the end of March. After the trials, when the Indian women’s senior hockey team was announced, Annu’s name was included in it. This caused a wave of happiness in the area including the family.
