Scam in Karnal: Fraudsters exploit dreams of going abroad, leave victims in financial ruin

12 lakh rupees were extorted and threatened to kill on asking for money.

Karnal: The case of fraud of Rs 12 lakh with a youth in Nising, Karnal, in Haryana, is again in the headlines, and the victim has demanded the police re-open the case and arrest the accused. Complainant Sonu, a resident of Nising, has told the police in his complaint that the accused had cheated him of lakhs of rupees using his fake documents in the name of sending him abroad.

Sonu said that when he learned about the fraud and asked for his money back, the accused threatened to kill him. Sonu filed a petition in the case with then-Home Minister Anil Vij. After this, DSP Karnal called both parties and recorded statements. The accused, Rajwant, admitted that he had received Rs 12 lakh and also made an agreement.

Victim Sonu told him that Rajwant had given him four checks instead of returning Rs 12 lakh, but these checks could not be cashed in the bank because Rajwant had no money in his account. When Sonu asked Rajwant for the remaining money, he said that the money was with Manjeet, who was absconding from Karnal. Despite repeated requests, Rajwant did not deposit the money in the bank and kept procrastinating.

Sonu said that he tried to meet Rajwant several times by going to his house, but every time his father and wife kept threatening to implicate him in a false case and kill him. No action has been taken by the police against the culprits till now, and neither have they been arrested.

Investigating officer Dayanand of Nising police station said that a complaint of fraud of Rs 12 lakh had been received in the name of sending Sonu abroad. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered and an investigation has been started. Action will be taken as per the facts that will come to light.
