Chandigarh: A decision of former Haryana Chief Minister and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has been implemented by Chief Minister Naib Saini after 4 months. During his tenure, Khattar had decided not to impose a minimum monthly charge (MMC) of Rs 115 on electricity consumers falling under tariff category 1 with domestic connected loads up to 2 kW in rural and urban areas.
Which has now been implemented in Haryana. In tariff category 1 in the state where the monthly electricity consumption is less than 200 units, the MMS in Haryana is Rs 115 per kilowatt (KW) for loads up to 2 kW.
The former CM had given relief during the announcement of giving relief to the ‘poorest people’ in his 2024–25 budget proposals on February 23.
Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar now Union Energy Minister had said in the Haryana Assembly, ‘I propose to abolish MMC for tariff category-1 consumers with domestic connected loads up to 2 kilowatts.
He had told me that this government decision would provide relief of about Rs 180 crore to the poorest families in the state. The decision to leave MMC charges will benefit about 9.5 lakh poor families in the state.
A senior officer of the Haryana government said that this decision will be implemented from the next billing cycle, and consumers can get relief of minimum 2% to maximum 91% (5 to 190 rupees) in their total electricity bill.
On the condition of anonymity, the officer said that if this decision of Rs 115 per kilowatt on domestic connection and load up to two kilowatts had come before the Lok Sabha elections, the picture would have been different.
