Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim walks out of jail, gets 21-day furlough

On Tuesday morning, Ram Rahim left Rohtak's Sunaria jail for Barnawa Ashram in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh at 6.30 am.

Rohtak: Before the Haryana assembly elections, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a sentence in the sexual exploitation and murder case of nuns, has been granted a 21-day furlough. On Tuesday morning, Ram Rahim left Rohtak’s Sunaria jail for Barnawa Ashram in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh at 6.30 am.

Just 2 days ago, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had told the Haryana government to give furlough or parole to Ram Rahim after careful consideration. After this, the government granted furlough to Ram Rahim on the condition that he would stay in Barnawa Ashram in Baghpat for 21 days. Ram Rahim will celebrate his birthday with his followers during this time.

Earlier on August 10, the High Court had rejected the petition of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), in which questions were raised on repeatedly granting parole or furlough to Ram Rahim. The High Court has clarified that the state government is capable of making decisions on such issues.

Ram Rahim coming out of jail before the elections is not a new thing. Earlier also, he has got parole-furlough before different elections. He has been active in the Panchayat elections and Assembly elections of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. Ram Rahim also wanted to come out of jail in this year’s Lok Sabha elections. He said that he is entitled to 14 days parole. However, after the strictness of the High Court, the government did not give parole to Ram Rahim.
