Kurukshetra: Farmers in Kurukshetra have now got hope of getting compensation for crops damaged due to unseasonal rain and hailstorm. The government has opened the e-compensation portal till March 20. After the portal was opened on March 7, by 2 pm, 318 farmers had registered the details of crops damaged in 1603 acres.
On the other hand, according to BKU President Gurnam Singh Chaduni, officials are submitting reports even before the details of the damaged crop are entered on the portal. Many such cases are coming to light in the state. The demand is that the survey should be conducted after the details are entered on the portal. There is no point in conducting the survey first. If the details of the farmer entered on the portal are found to be correct, then he should be given compensation.
The department had assumed a 20 percent loss
Crops were damaged in Shahabad and Babain area due to rain and hailstorm on 28 February and 1 March, but the Revenue Department had reported 20 percent crop damage due to rain and hailstorm in the district, due to which the government did not open the portal in Kurukshetra. Later, the Agriculture Department had accepted that crops were damaged in more than 40 thousand acres.
Now the portal has been opened for 97 villages
According to Dr. Karm Chand, Deputy Director of Agriculture Department, the loss has been estimated in the survey conducted again as per the order of the Deputy Commissioner. Now an e-compensation portal has been opened for the farmers of 97 villages of Babain including Shahabad. The survey revealed that the crops of wheat, sunflower and mustard have been damaged. In some places, the maize crop may also be affected.
918 farmers from 71 villages have already registered their details
So far, farmers from 71 villages in the district have registered the details of their damaged crops on the portal. According to the Agriculture Department, 908 farmers have applied on the portal for compensation for crop damage in 4,899 acres of land. Farmers who have taken Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana will get compensation from the insurance company. Other farmers will be compensated under the government scheme.
