Farmer returning from Shambhu border dies

Accident on National Highway; companion seriously injured; bike collided with the rear of the truck.

Khanna: One of the two farmers returning home from the protest at Shambhu border died in a road accident near Bhadla flyover on National Highway in Mandi Gobindgarh. His companion was seriously injured.

The deceased has been identified as Sukhwinder Singh (57), resident of Ranghar Nangal (Gurdaspur). Injured Baljit Singh (47) is undergoing treatment at Trauma Center of Khanna Civil Hospital.

Harvinder Singh, Senior Deputy Chief of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab, said that farmers from various districts are contributing to the ongoing protest at Shambhu border. Two of his volunteers Sukhwinder Singh and Baljit Singh were also returning on bike after spending 10 days in the protest.

The driver of the truck going ahead of them on the flyover near Mandi Gobindgarh suddenly applied brakes and the bike collided from behind. Sukhwinder Singh died in the accident.

SSP Amneet Kaundal said that this accident happened within the boundary of Mandi Gobindgarh. The police there has been informed about it. FIR will be registered in Mandi Gobindgarh police station under Fatehgarh Sahib district. The police there will investigate the accident.
