Chandigarh: The Haryana government has challenged the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Courts to remove the barricades from the Shambhu border in the Supreme Court. The petition of the Haryana government is to be heard in the Supreme Court today. However, on July 10, the High Court asked the Haryana government to remove the barricades from the border within a week so that people would not face any problems commuting.
Advocate Vasu Ranjan Shandilya has described the challenge of the High Court’s orders to open the Shambhu border by the Haryana government in the Supreme Court as unfortunate. He said that the Haryana government should not have done this because the common people are facing a lot of trouble due to the closure of the Shambhu border.
A division bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujal Bhuiyan will hear this case in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has already reprimanded the Haryana government for closing the border. He said that he would demand the Supreme Court bench order the opening of the Shambhu border in the public interest.
Vasu Ranjan Shandilya said that during the debate, he would also demand strict guidelines against those blocking the national highway. He said that he hoped that the Supreme Court would put its seal on the High Court order challenged by the Haryana government and order the opening of the Shambhu border.
The struggle has been going on since February.
The farmers of Punjab have been on strike since February 2024 over the MSP of crops. In such a situation, keeping security in mind, the Haryana government closed the Shambhu border between Haryana and Punjab by putting up barricades. After this, the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections came into force.
The farmers had made a permanent front on the Punjab side of the border. In such a situation, movement from there is closed. At the same time, due to this, the traders in Ambala are facing problems. People are not able to do business there. After this, he took refuge in the Punjab and Haryana High Courts.
The High Court had ordered the Haryana government to open the border. But the government has approached the Supreme Court in this matter.
