Haryana’s new governor Ashim Ghosh takes oath of office, replaces Bandaru Dattatreya

Ghosh took charge as the 19th Governor of Haryana state

Haryana’s new Governor Ashim Ghosh (81) took oath of office at the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh on Monday. Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu administered the oath to him. He read his speech in English. Ghosh took charge as the 19th Governor of Haryana state, which came into existence on November 1, 1966.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini and Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria were also present at the swearing-in ceremony. Ghosh has been made the Governor in place of Bandaru Dattatreya. His name was announced by President Draupadi Murmu on 14 July 2025. Ghosh has been the President of the BJP in West Bengal.

On his appointment, Ashim Ghosh said – “This is a matter of great honor for me. I will serve the people of Haryana with full honesty and dedication.”

Asim Kumar Ghosh took over as the 19th Governor of the state. He has replaced the 18th Governor of the state, Bandaru Dattatreya. All ministers and MLA,s including Chief Minister Nayab Saini, were present in the program.

Ashim has played an important role in establishing the roots of RSS and BJP in West Bengal. Currently, Ghosh was working to promote BJP’s policies by being a part of the party’s Margdarshak Mandal in West Bengal. Tapan Sikandar, who was a minister in the cabinet of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, brought Ashim into politics.

It was Vajpayee who handed over the command of the BJP in West Bengal to Ghosh after seeing his expertise. Ghosh is known as an intellectual face within the party.
