Haryana: Preparations for elections begin in seven bodies, tenure ends in January 2026

The tenure of six body institutions will end in January 2026, and one municipality in June 2026.

Preparations for elections have started in seven bodies of Haryana, along with three municipal corporations. Elections are to be held in one Municipal Council and three Municipalities. The Urban Local Bodies Department has asked the concerned body institutions to immediately provide details related to PPP (Family Identity Card) and population. Only after this will work start on the upcoming preparations related to the election. The tenure of six body institutions will end in January 2026, and one municipality in June 2026.

The tenure of Panchkula, Sonipat, and Ambala Municipal Corporations, Rewari Municipal Council, and Sampla Municipality of Rohtak district, and Uklana Municipality of Hisar is ending in January 2026. The tenure of Dharuhera Municipality of Rewari district will end in June 2026.

Decision will be taken regarding wards on the basis of population

At present, Commissioner and Secretary of Urban Local Bodies Department Vikas Gupta has sought details of PPP (Family Identity Card) and population from all the seven concerned bodies. Further action will begin after the details are made available to the body department within a week.

This information will decide how many wards will be increased in which bodies or the current wards will remain in proportion to the population. Panchkula, Sonipat and Ambala Municipal Corporations have a total of 20 wards each. Talking about Rewari Municipal Council, there are a total of 31 wards here.

Uklana has 13 wards and Dharuhera Municipal Council has a total of 17 wards. The civic department will also complete the process of reservation related to wards and the posts of Mayor of Municipal Corporations and President of Municipal Councils.
