Chandigarh: Haryana students who returned after studying MBBS abroad for low fees will now have to do not one but two to three years of internship. Only after this will they be able to get the status of a doctor.
The Haryana government has implemented these orders of the National Medical Commission.
According to the order issued by the Haryana Medical Council, students who return after studying MBBS abroad without two to three years of internship will not be considered doctors.
Since medical studies are expensive in Haryana, students go to Russia, China, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Georgia, Israel, and Poland for MBBS. In these countries, MBBS studies cost between Rs 2.75 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, while in Haryana, the average annual cost is Rs 15 to 20 lakh.
Indian Medical Graduates (IMGs) studying in India do not have to appear for the Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) immediately. Their internship period is only one year. The difference in fees for registration after completing an internship for students educated in India and those educated abroad is also an issue.
Students who return after completing MBBS from outside India are called Foreign Medical Graduates, i.e., FMG. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice regarding them. It has been said in this notice that many FMGs are wrongly taking compensatory certificates from their original universities for online classes.
This profession is related to precious human lives, so their lives cannot be put at stake in the hands of less skilled people, so the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) has decided that from now on, certificates obtained by doing online classes instead of offline practicals or clinical training will not be accepted.
