Haryana Weather: Monsoon to arrive in state at end of June

Although the effect of the monsoon is visible in the northeastern states, there is no hope of its arrival in Haryana at the moment.

After 5 consecutive days of rain and thunderstorms in Haryana, the weather is expected to be normal from today. The Meteorological Department says that this year the monsoon will arrive on its scheduled time. The normal arrival of monsoon starts from June 28 and spreads across the state by July 3. Although the effect of the monsoon is visible in the northeastern states, there is no hope of its arrival in Haryana at the moment.

Dr. Madan Khichad, Head of the Department of Agricultural Meteorology, Haryana Agricultural University, said that contrary to the initial speculations of the monsoon arriving before time, it is now likely to arrive on its scheduled time. He clarified that the monsoon can enter the state from three different directions – Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, which mainly depends on the direction of the wind.

According to the Meteorological Department, this year the monsoon is likely to be better than normal. It is noteworthy that the pre-monsoon rains have already broken many records. The rainfall in the month of May has broken the record of the last 17 years. Experts believe that these pre-monsoon activities are positive signs for the upcoming monsoon.

Talking about last year, the southwest monsoon in 2024 was 5% less than normal. The monsoon period in Haryana is considered to be from June to September. Normally 430.7 mm of rain occurs in monsoon but last year this figure could reach only 409.4.

Monsoon rain was 53% in June, 58% in July, 126% in August and 137% in September. August and September had completed the monsoon quota. According to IMD, the monsoon was normal in 2024. Earlier, the monsoon was better in 2011 and 2018. But in 1901 and 1987, the lowest monsoon rainfall was only 63.6%.
