Haryana’s braveheart Subedar Baldev Singh martyred in Siachen; Last rites today in Sirsa with state honours

Subedar Baldev Singh from Haryana's Sirsa district was martyred while on duty at the Siachen Glacier in Ladakh. He was serving with the Jammu & Kashmir JAK Rifles and had been promoted to the rank of Subedar just last year.

Sirsa, April 21: Subedar Baldev Singh from Haryana’s Sirsa district was martyred while on duty at the Siachen Glacier in Ladakh. He was serving with the Jammu & Kashmir JAK Rifles and had been promoted to the rank of Subedar just last year. His mortal remains were flown from Ladakh to Delhi with full military honours and are being brought to his native village. His last rites will be performed today with state honours.

He had joined the 18th regiment of the JAK Rifles in March 2001. Known for his dedication and discipline, he had steadily risen through the ranks over the years. On Saturday night, Subedar Baldev Singh went to bed after his duty at Kumar Post in the North Glacier. However, his health suddenly deteriorated on Sunday morning. He experienced vomiting and uneasiness, followed by severe chest pain. Despite emergency medical treatment, he passed away at 11 am on Sunday.

The Northern Command Chief and other senior army officials paid tribute to the martyred Subedar before his body was sent to his native hometown. A wave of grief swept through the region as soon as the news of his martyrdom reached the family. Locals and relatives have been gathering at his home in Birpur colony to pay their respects.

Subedar Baldev Singh is survived by his mother Rachna Kaur, wife Gurvinder Kaur, son Upraj Singh, and daughter Manreet Kaur. His father, Balwant Singh, had passed away earlier. The Singh;s family is known for its patriotic legacy; each of the four brothers in Baldev Singh’s extended family has a son serving in the Indian Army.

Sirsa will bid farewell today to one of its bravest sons, whose sacrifice for the nation will always be remembered.
