Haryana’s Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma took oath, launches attack on Congress

The BJP MP said, Congress should not forget the era of Emergency.

Chandigarh: Rekha Sharma, the newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana, took oath as Rajya Sabha MP in Parliament today. She attacked the Congress on the issue of women. She said, “Nothing was done for women during the Congress rule despite having a woman president! Only the women of the Gandhi family developed.

In the name of women’s development, after Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, only Priyanka Gandhi held high positions in the party. No other woman was seen in any top position in her party either. The women who were there were also not given a chance to come forward.” The BJP MP said, Congress should not forget the era of Emergency.

Giving her first reaction in Delhi after becoming a Rajya Sabha MP, she said, I worked as the chairperson of the Women’s Commission, before that I worked in many NGOs and my BJP party. Similarly, as an MP, I will work for women’s empowerment in the future too. It is very important to change the thinking of the society towards women, for which it is necessary to work at the grassroots level. Economic development of women will be my biggest goal.

BJP leader Rekha Sharma from Haryana has been elected Rajya Sabha MP unopposed. No candidate from Congress or any other party filed nomination against him. On December 13, the last day for withdrawal of nomination, he was given the certificate of victory. His term will last till 2028. BJP had made Rekha Sharma, former chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW), its Rajya Sabha candidate.
