Housing Board abolished in Haryana: Merged with HSVP with an agreement of Rs 200 crore

The purpose of forming the board was to provide houses to the poor on the policy of 'no profit-no loss'.

Haryana’s Housing Board, which was functioning for 54 years, ended on April 1. The then Chief Minister Late Chaudhary Bansi Lal had formed it in 1971. The Housing Board had sold 1 lakh flats in Haryana till March 31, 2025, but surprisingly, more than 10 thousand of them are still lying vacant. It has been merged with HSVP. A total agreement has been reached for Rs 200 crore.

The Housing Board currently has 300 acres of land lying in about 30 places, which is not being used. The purpose of forming the board was to provide houses to the poor on the policy of ‘no profit-no loss’.

The board has built and sold about one lakh flats, but gradually the financial condition of the board deteriorated and questions were also raised on the quality of the flats. In view of this, Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini had approved its abolition. This board has now joined the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP).

The board acquired land at many places for some schemes, but it could not complete them. In such a situation, people started demanding money, due to which the liability increased. Therefore, an agreement was made to give 200 crores to the former HSVP.

The board has sold one lakh flats in Haryana so far, but more than 10 thousand were vacant. The board also has 300 acres of land at about 30-32 places. However, it has not been used by the board yet. Due to this the existence of the Housing Board ended in the state as soon as April 1 came.
