Haryana: Relief for bus passengers get cold water in buses

The state has been facing severe heat for the last few days.

Chandigarh: In the increasing heat in Haryana, passengers travelling by roadway buses will no longer have to wander here and there to quench their thirst. The department will arrange cold water for the passengers on the buses.

The Haryana State Transport Department has made a big decision to arrange cold water in all roadway buses for passengers in the summer season. The Transport Directorate has issued a letter to all the depot general managers of the state and instructed them to ensure the availability of cold drinking water for the passengers on the buses. With this decision by the department, passengers will no longer have to wander here and there for water or quench their thirst by buying expensive water if they feel thirsty during the journey.

The state has been facing severe heat for the last few days. On Monday, the temperature at night in 18 districts of the state had reached 31 to 33 degrees, and the maximum temperature in more than 10 districts had once again crossed the 46 mark. On Tuesday, the situation was more serious than on Monday. There is no hope of relief from the heatwave for the next three days before the western disturbance becomes active. The Meteorological Department has also expressed the possibility of monsoons becoming active in the state on June 29.

Women, children, and the elderly often have to face more trouble when they feel thirsty while travelling in the summer season. This problem is seen more on long routes. Although, to quench the thirst of the passengers, the driver-conductor often stops the buses when he sees hand pumps installed on the river bank or other places, this is not possible on every route.

The government has installed water coolers at all the bus stations in the state to provide cold water to the passengers, but due to mismanagement, RO water coolers are found closed at most of the bus stations. Due to this, the passengers have to buy bottles of water from the canteen at the bus station or the shops built nearby.

On the orders of the Haryana government, things are not implemented properly. Nothing has been said about how the arrangements will be made. In such a situation, the question is: how will the drivers and conductors arrange for cold water? For this, funds will be provided by the department, or the department will provide campers.
