Uchana: In Jind district’s Uchana area, farmers of five villages blocked the National Highway between Baroda and Khatkad from both sides, demanding canal water. Around 11:30 am, farmers from Kasuhan, Baroda Khatkad, Rojkheda, and Ghoghadia villages reached the highway.
The farmers blocked the road while raising slogans against the administration. Vehicle drivers travelled through the link road of the nearby village till the jam was cleared. Due to the jam, long lines of vehicles were formed on both sides.
After getting information about the jam being blocked by the farmers, police station in-charge Pawan Kumar reached out to the police force. Talked to the farmers about opening the jam. However, the farmers were demanding a solution to the problem by calling the canal department officer on the spot. The farmers said that water goes to L-1, 2, and 3 canals from Barsola.
The village, which is at the tail. It has been 6 months since water reached there. The fields have not been able to irrigate the crops with canal water even once. The canal water is being released less from the back, and the water is not reaching the tail even due to the rainwater taps. In such a situation, along with paddy and the cotton crop is also getting spoiled.
Kahsun village sarpanch Shrikant said that the farmers are tired of demanding again and again. But their demands are not being heard. The farmers should be in the field, but the farmers have come on the road out of helplessness. They have had to block the road out of helplessness. When the crops in the fields have started getting spoiled. The government and administration should make proper arrangements to deliver water to the tail.
Canal water has not been seen at the tail for the last 6 months. The farmer’s crop is dependent on canal water. The crop has started getting spoiled due to a lack of canal water.
