The situation of cancer in Sirsa district of Haryana has become worrisome. Sirsa MP and Congress General Secretary Kumari Selja has written a letter to Chief Minister Nayab Saini demanding immediate action. The MP said that Sirsa and Fatehabad districts are most affected by cancer, but there is no proper arrangement for the treatment of patients here.
Cancer cases are increasing rapidly especially in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kaithal and Ambala districts located on the banks of river Ghaggar. Even samples have to be sent to laboratories in other places for testing. Patients have to go to Delhi, Bikaner or Chandigarh for treatment. The seriousness of the situation can be gauged from the fact that about 1500 people are dying of cancer every month in Haryana.
Patients have to go either to PGI Rohtak, Chandigarh or National Cancer Institute Jhajjar, where there is a long wait due to the large number of patients. At the same time, treatment in private hospitals is beyond the reach of the common man. Patients are losing their lives due to lack of specialist doctors and proper treatment facilities in civil hospitals.
