Rohtak: Preparations for the municipal elections are in full swing in Rohtak district of Haryana. Nominations for the post of mayor and councilor will begin from February 11, but the Congress and BJP have not yet announced their candidates for the post of mayor and councilor.
Regarding the municipal elections, the BJP’s state core committee has held a meeting and discussed the names of the panel sent by the district core committee. But nothing can be said about when the names will be announced. At the same time, no candidate has yet come forward openly for the post of mayor in the Congress.
Nominations will be done from 11 to 17 February for the Municipal Corporation elections. Nominations will be filed from 11 to 17 February for the Kalanaur Municipal Council elections. There will be no nominations on 12 and 16 February. Voting for the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council will be held on 2 March and the results will be declared after counting of votes on 12 March.
Schedule of Municipal Corporation Election:
Nominations for Municipal Corporation elections will be from 11 to 17 February, scrutiny of nominations will be till 11:30 am on 18 February and withdrawal of nominations will be from 11 am to 3 pm on 19 February. The administration has set up 268 polling stations in 22 wards.
Independent candidates have started campaigning for the post of councilor in the municipal corporation. Flexes have been put up in the wards, while e-rickshaws are also being driven around the wards. They are also going door-to-door and appealing to the people. Independent candidates have jumped into the election fray with full force.
3 lakh 19 thousand voters will decide the mayor
There are 3 lakh 19 thousand voters in the Municipal Corporation area. Among them, there are 1 lakh 65 thousand male and 1 lakh 53 thousand female voters, who will decide the fate of the councilors and mayor in 22 wards on March 2. The Election Commission also seems to be fully prepared for the Municipal Corporation elections.
