Occupation of highway in Haryana due to non-payment of compensation; Police detained farmers

On receiving the information, the Naib Tehsildar reached the spot with the police force.

On Tuesday morning, some people occupied State Highway No. 6 in Pehowa in Kurukshetra, Haryana. They started building a wall by placing a tractor trolley in the middle of the road. On receiving the information, the Naib Tehsildar reached the spot with the police force.

The officials tried to explain, but the occupiers did not agree. After this, the police took some people into custody. After this, the bricks kept on the highway were lifted and traffic was started.

The farmer alleges that the PWD built a road on his land in 1987. I have won the case in the court 3 times. I have not received compensation for this yet. Therefore, I had to decide to occupy it out of frustration.

Farmer Balwinder Singh, a resident of Amritsari Farm, said that the PWD built a road on my 22 marla land without giving compensation. In 2006, I filed a case in the civil court. In 2013, the Pehowa court ordered that either give compensation to the farmer in 6 months or remove the road.

Court got us possession in 2018: Balvindra further said that when the government did not take any action, we filed an execution in the court. After the government’s objections were rejected, the court got us possession in 2018. After this, the government went to the High Court, where their petition was also rejected.

Bricks were also placed on the road in 2023: The farmer said that in 2023 I tried to take possession of the road. Then the SDM said that he would give the compensation money in 2-4 days. On his assurance, the bricks were removed from the road. Still, instead of giving compensation, they went to the court. PWD did not get relief from there either.
