Panchkula: There will be a draw for the post of Mayor and Pradhan today at the Panchkula headquarters of Haryana Urban Local Bodies Department (ULB). Elections will be held in 34 municipal bodies including 8 municipal corporations of Haryana. These elections will be held in 2 phases.
Ever since the announcement of preparations for the election, interested candidates have been waiting for the draw. Only after the draw will it be decided for whom the post of Mayor and Pradhan will be reserved in which corporation or municipality. Draw will be held for women, SC, BC, and general posts. All the officers of 22 districts have been called to Panchkula headquarters for the meeting to be held in Panchkula today.
Let us tell you that earlier wards were reserved in the bodies. After this, objections were sought on ward demarcation to prepare the final draft of ward demarcation. After the objections, the ward demarcation will be finalized and the election process will be taken forward.
Municipal elections are expected to be held in the state by February 2025. The government has issued a notification regarding this.
Now candidates will be able to spend Rs 5 lakh more for campaigning for mayor elections in Haryana. Earlier this limit was 25 lakh rupees, which has now been increased to 30 lakh rupees. The government had taken this decision recently regarding the civic elections in Haryana.
The spending limit for the candidate contesting the councillor election in the corporation has also been increased by 1.5 lakhs. Now they can spend 7.5 lakh rupees. At the same time, the limit of election expenditure for the post of president of the city council has been increased from 16 lakhs to 20 lakhs.
Similarly, the city council members will also be able to spend 4.5 lakhs instead of 3.5 lakhs. The spending limit for the election for the post of president of the municipal committee has been increased to 12.50 lakh rupees. Earlier, they could spend only 10.50 lakh rupees.
