Palwal: The pillar being placed on the Baghola underpass on National Highway-19 in Palwal, Haryana, collapsed and broke into two pieces. If the pillar had been placed on the underpass and then broken, a major accident could have happened. Officials related to the construction work say that while placing it on the trolley, the balance got disturbed due to slipping, and this accident happened.
After National Highway-19 was made six-lane, the work of flyovers in some villages remained incomplete, the work of which is going on. On Saturday, a 32-meter-long, 76-ton pillar was to be placed on a long trolley with the help of two big cranes and taken to the underpass to be placed on the underpass being constructed for Janauli Road in the flyover being constructed in Baghola village.
The cranes placed it on the trolley, but the trolley could not bear its weight, and the pillar became unbalanced, fell from the trolley, and broke into two pieces. Fortunately, the traffic was stopped there at that time. This prevented a major accident.
Satpal, the contractor’s employee who was looking after the project, said that the pillars on both sides of the underpass were complete. Pillars of 32–32 meters long and 76 tons in weight were made to be placed on top of the pillars. On Saturday, the pillar was placed in the trolley with the help of cranes to take it from the construction site to the underpass. At the same time, due to the breaking of the sheet of the trolley from one side, the pillar became unbalanced and fell and broke.
Satpal said that there was no fault in the material used in the construction of the pillar; it just fell and broke due to a loss of balance. If it had been kept, no accident would have happened.
