Haryana: Polling for local body elections is currently taking place in Haryana, with voters arriving early at various locations. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was among the first to vote in Karnal. After casting his ballot, he emphasized the importance of local governance as a vital component of democracy, noting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) strong performance in previous elections.
In Rohtak, many elderly voters were eager to participate, demonstrating significant enthusiasm at booth number 179.
The elections are being conducted across 33 municipal bodies, including eight municipal corporations, 21 municipalities, and four municipal councils. Voting is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with results expected to be announced on March 12.
Key municipal corporations, including Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, and Yamunanagar, are holding elections for mayoral positions and ward councillors. Elections for mayors are also taking place in Ambala and Sonepat due to the former mayors’ election to the Assembly. A total of 39 candidates are vying for mayoral positions across the eight corporations.
It’s important to note that the polling for the Panipat municipal corporation will occur separately on March 9, with campaigning allowed until 6 p.m. on March 7.
Additionally, elections are being held for the president and ward members in municipal councils in Ambala Sadar, Pataudi Jatoli Mandi, Thanesar, and Sirsa. The councils in Sohna, Assandh, and Ismailabad will also elect their presidents, while 21 municipal committees will choose their presidents and ward members.
In Gurugram district, voting is taking place across five municipal areas, including the Municipal Corporations of Gurugram and Manesar, as well as the councils of Sohna, Pataudi, and Farrukhnagar. District Magistrate and District Election Officer Ajay Kumar reported that polling parties are managing 1,109 polling stations in the district.
