Prepaid meters to be installed in 2.75 lakh houses of Haryana: Union Minister Manohar lal Khattar

the number of electricity consumers in Haryana has increased to 70 lakh 46 thousand.

Chandigarh: Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), the central government is going to change the electricity distribution system across the country. Under this, prepaid smart electricity meters will be installed in Haryana as well. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who was elected to Parliament from Haryana, has talked about installing prepaid meters at the houses of government employees first.

After this, meters will be installed at the houses of common consumers in the second phase. There are about 2.75 lakh government employees in Haryana. On the other hand, if we talk about electricity consumers, the number of electricity consumers in Haryana has increased to 70 lakh 46 thousand.

In this, there are 32 lakh 84 thousand electricity consumers of North Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and 37 lakh 62 thousand electricity consumers of South Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). After the installation of smart meter, the electricity meter will have to be recharged like a mobile.

Prepaid electricity meter is a system of paying for electricity before using it. In this, the consumer has to buy electricity vouchers or tokens to use electricity. The power supply is started by inserting these vouchers in the meter.

After the power vouchers are over, new vouchers have to be bought to restart the power supply. Just like we buy value packs for mobile phones, we can recharge the power meter with as many units as we need. The power will be turned off as soon as the units are over. Before this, 2 to 3 alerts will come on the mobile.
