Sonipat, May 20: Associate Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad of Ashoka University, Sonipat, who was arrested for making comments against the army during ‘Operation Sindoor’, was produced in the court by the police on Tuesday. The police again sought his remand for 7 days. The court rejected the police’s demand for remand after hearing arguments from both sides. The professor has since been sent to jail for 7 days ‘ judicial custody.
The police argued in the court that the data of the laptop and mobile recovered from Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad has to be matched after recovery. Also, the original passport and account transaction details have to be checked. After the arguments of the lawyers of both sides, the court rejected the plea of the police for remand.
The court instructed the police that if they feel that the professor’s remand is needed, they should file a fresh application in the court. The court also instructed the police to file a challan in the case within 60 days.
Ali Khan’s lawyer says that the police had taken a 2-day remand under FIR number 147. The remand period ended today. Ali Khan was presented in the court. The police had applied for a 7-day remand, but the judge rejected the 7-day remand on the argument given by Ali Khan’s lawyer. His lawyer says that justice has prevailed.
Advocate Kapil says that Ali Khan has been sent to jail. Now we will see whether to apply for bail or take the case forward to the Supreme Court. The lawyer says that the recovery that was to be done by the police has been done. He has also said that the facts were not against him. Only Ali Khan has been harassed. He has opposed custody again.

The police arrested the professor from Greater Kailash in Delhi and presented him in the Sonipat court on Sunday and took him on a 2-day remand for recovery of laptops etc. After the completion of the remand period, he was produced in the court today.
