Chandigarh PGI: Telemedicine proves to be a boon

Patients who do not get relief from telemedicine are called to PGI, but not every patient.

Chandigarh: The telemedicine department of Chandigarh PGI is becoming a source of relief for patients sitting far away. Earlier 8 to 10 thousand patients came to the OPD every day, which also included patients from far-flung states. The telemedicine department treated 7663 patients from Haryana alone in May and this figure was 7100 in April.

According to the data, every month the telemedicine department is treating more than 7 thousand patients, who no longer need to come to PGI.

Women are also getting treatment for diseases related to the gynaecology department. In May alone, the gynaecology department has treated 1675 women. Head of the department Prof. Biman Sakia says that telemedicine is bringing a big change in the medical field. Now patients are getting treatment from PGI doctors near their homes. Patients do not need to come here. In this way, the time of both doctors and patients is being saved.

Patients who do not get relief from telemedicine are called to PGI, but not every patient. This not only saves the time of patients but also reduces the financial burden on the hospital. For four years, PGI has focused only on the state of Haryana. There is a long queue of patients in PGI in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana. In this way, even if it is minor, the increasing pressure is reduced. The telemedicine department wants to increase facilities so that focus can be given to other states as well. If this happens, then there can be some relief from the increasing number of patients in PGI.

The Internal Medicine department sees the maximum number of patients.

Last month, 2719 patients got treatment in Internal Medicine. After this, the Skin department treated 1802 patients. 1026 children from the Ophthalmology department and 441 children from the Pediatrics department were treated through tele consultation.
