Rohtak MDU teachers sit on protest

Angry over not getting a salary, oppose the plan to self-finance the university.

Rohtak: Under the banner of Rohtak-based Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), teachers staged a dharna in front of the Vice Chancellor’s office regarding their demands. They raised slogans against the government and the MDU administration. Teachers said that they had not received a salary for two months. They expressed their displeasure with the government over salary and other demands. An indefinite dharna is being held under the leadership of MDU Teachers’ Union President Vikas Siwach.

President Vikas Siwach said that the salary for June has not yet been received by teachers and non-teaching staff above the superintendent. Due to this, there is a lot of anger among all the teachers and employees. At present, a decision has been taken to protest in MDU. He also said that a front would be opened against the government by talking to the heads of all the universities in Haryana. He told Minister Seema Trikha that poor children will be deprived of higher education due to loans or self-finance.

Teachers demanded that their salaries be given immediate effect. On the lines of government-aided colleges in Haryana, 100 per cent of the grant amount should be given to the university. The salaries of all teachers, including those employed under the self-finance scheme, guest teachers, and non-teaching staff, and the pensions of retired teachers and non-teaching staff, should be borne by the government.

If there is no money to pay salaries and pensions to the employees and teachers employed in MDU, then from where will the university administration arrange for the salary of about 154 new recruitments that have been carried out by the Maharishi Dayanand University administration? He said that the new recruitment will also be opposed until the government does not give a 100 per cent grant to the university.

He demanded that the promotion of professors to senior professors and other 75 teachers under the Career Advancement Scheme be stopped after November 11, 2022, due to which there is deep anger among the teachers. The demand is that these teachers should be promoted with immediate effect after screening and interviewing them. If the word loan is not completely removed from university self-finance, then there will be opposition to it.
