Youth duped of Rs 20.5 lakh in Rohtak, fraud on name of investment

The police have registered a case and started an investigation.

Rohtak: A case of fraud of ₹20.5 lakh has come to light in Rohtak. The victim was lured with the promise of earning a huge profit through investment. He was asked to download an app and make investments through it. However, when he tried to withdraw the money from the app, the money could not be retrieved.

Following this, he lodged a complaint with the police. Rohit Khangwal, a resident of Omex City, Rohtak, filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station. In his complaint, he stated that on December 12, he saw an advertisement for stock market investment on Google. When he clicked on it, a check started on WhatsApp.

He received messages about stock market investment schemes, which claimed a 30 to 100 percent profit from buying and selling stocks. He became convinced by these claims and began learning about the process.

He mentioned that during this time, he was provided with a link to download an app, promising more profits with investments. He clicked on the link and downloaded the app. Then, the accused explained an investment scheme on WhatsApp through this app. As a result, he made 6 transactions and deposited ₹20,50,000 into his bank account and UPI ID.

When he tried to withdraw the money from the app, he found that the amount could not be retrieved. Despite repeated requests, the money was not returned. Instead, he was threatened to deposit ₹20 lakh more. Realizing that he had been cheated, he reported the matter to the police. The police have registered a case and started an investigation.
