Hisar, June 23: YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan, appeared in Hisar court today through video conferencing (VC). After the hearing, the court has sent Jyoti to 14 days judicial custody. Now the next hearing of the case will be on July 7.
Jyoti was arrested by Hisar police from her house on May 16. After her arrest, she was on police remand for 9 days. Then on June 23, the court sent her to judicial custody. Earlier, her bail plea was rejected by the lower court.
Jyoti is accused of sharing sensitive information with Pakistani agents. Initial police investigations revealed her conversation with Pakistani agents, after which Indian intelligence agencies also questioned her.
Jyoti’s lawyer Kumar Mukesh says that he will now file a bail petition in the Sessions Court and is considering legal options.
The lawyer said that the sections imposed on Jyoti are wrong
Jyoti’s lawyer, Kumar Mukesh, said that the sections imposed on Jyoti are wrong. The police investigation does not seem to show that the allegations against Jyoti are true. Kumar Mukesh said that the police chargesheet will reveal on what basis the police took action against Jyoti.
Kumar Mukesh said that if section 152 of BNS is not removed, then the police can present a charge sheet in 90 days. If the section is removed then the charge sheet can be presented in 60 days as per the other sections. If the police retains 152B in its investigation, then it can present a charge sheet in 90 days.
Jyoti’s father has met him several times, she asks about her uncle
Harish Malhotra, father of YouTuber Jyoti who was caught on charges of spying for Pakistan, has met Jyoti several times in jail. Jyoti keeps asking him about her uncle. She tells her father to tell her uncle that she will come home soon. The jail administration says that Jyoti is completely fine in jail and follows her daily routine. She eats full meals and is getting full sleep.
