Hearing in Amritpal Singh Case Today at Amritsar Court; Two charges dropped last time due to lack of evidence

A hearing in the high-profile case involving Amritpal Singh—the chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ and the Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib—is scheduled to take place once again today (Saturday) at the Amritsar court. During the previous hearing, the court delivered a significant ruling, ordering the removal of two key charges leveled against Amritpal Singh: Section 201 of the IPC and charges under the Arms Act.

The police had invoked Section 201 on charges of tampering with evidence, while a case regarding the possession of illegal weapons was registered under the Arms Act. However, during the arguments presented in court, it emerged that neither any weapons nor any concrete evidence capable of substantiating these allegations were recovered from Amritpal Singh during police interrogation and the subsequent investigation. Based on this premise, the court decided to drop both charges.

Case Continues Under Remaining Serious Charges

Nevertheless, the proceedings regarding the remaining serious charges will continue. Arguing on the discharge petition on behalf of Amritpal Singh, Advocate Rituraj Singh Sandhu contended that these two specific charges had been applied erroneously and did not align with the factual circumstances. The defense counsel asserted that several allegations had been leveled without any concrete evidentiary backing. Advocate Sandhu stated that during the upcoming hearings, they would present their case vigorously, relying on witness testimonies and documentary evidence. He maintains that the allegations leveled against his client are baseless.

    All Eyes on Today’s Hearing

The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for today, May 16. During this session, further proceedings regarding the examination of evidence and documents are expected to take place in court. Both political and legal circles remain closely focused on this high-profile case.
