These days some inhuman incidents have taken place which have shamed humanity. In such an environment, the new people of this era never look at their face in the mirror. If they could look, they would find that their face has become so ugly and discoloured in no time. Some completely new incidents shake the heart of a person. There is an incident of village Bhai Bakhtawar of district Bathinda of Punjab, where a farmer Saudagar Singh, upset with the failure of his crop, committed suicide by swallowing sulphas a few days ago. The farmer’s son Kulwinder Singh said that we performed the last rites of our father in the cremation ground of Bhai Bakhtawar. On Sunday, the family members had come to collect the ashes. The farmer had got artificial knees fitted due to arthritis. The new knees are made of titanium metal which is expensive. But if they get burnt in fire once, they cannot be used for medical purposes again. Titanium metal is expensive, hence these knees are sold as metal. So it happened that a drug addict also entered along with the flower pickers. When the artificial knees of the dead body were found, he stole them, put them in a bag and went away. How long could this theft be hidden? When the family members came to know about it, they caught him. They beat him and snatched away the knees. But how despicable is it that thieves don’t even spare funeral pyres? Another horrific news came from Guwahati, Assam. A young man brutally murdered his wife, but what he did after that was beyond the reach of humanity. He beheaded his wife, cut off her fingers, and placed them in the refrigerator of his own house. The torso of his 25-yearold wife, Riya Talukdar, lay rotting in the flat, without her head and fingers. The murderous husband had planned to feed the body to dogs, but later, unable to do so, he fled. When the smell of the body emanated from the apartment, police recovered the body and arrested the accused, responding to complaints from residents. Who can forget the recent news when, upon the death of their father, his three daughters watched his funeral on their mobile phones but did not attend the cremation, sending only money for the expenses? Incidents such as these, unthinkable in previous eras, ingratitude and infidelity, have become the hallmarks of this new era. To what account will this orgy of brutality be attributed?
